Who is Who

Alphabetical, so nobody can complain. The following are the usual suspects in this blog.

Basil: The best dog ever. A 7 year-old terrier rescued from a shelter. He is my love, my adoration, my everything. People think I love him more than the BF. Sometimes I think they’re right.

The BF: Formerly the Ex, now we are together again. Read the archives for more and don’t judge me. Love is love and only those who are in it understand it.

Claude: Two years younger than me, she is one of my high school best friends. With the Knitter, we form the best trio ever. A teacher like me, she is my emergency phone call in the US

Dad: My biggest human love and my biggest source of pain. He’s too much a baby, so we clash. Still, I am his flesh, blood and intellectual rival, so we adore each other. I don’t think we’ll ever find balance, but I try every day.

Gardenia: Formerly called “the Redhead”, she was one of my first NY friends. A perfect lady and a picture of selflessness, she never got me to knit, but she got me to love NY

HCA: Home Country “A”. Place of my birth, where I spent 1/3 of my life and where mom lives. I do not talk about its location for privacy issues. And because I still struggle with what it means to come from there and what it’s done to me. Half of my identity and passports come from there.

the Knitter: My biggest and very best friend in the world. We met in high school and she is the ying to my yang (or vice-versa). Too much can be said and it won’t fit in two sentences.

Mexico: It’s a country, but a person in my heart. The other half of my identity and passports, but to which I am -I think- more connected than HCA. I miss it dearly every day and question whether it’s there I should be living.

Miss M: My former roommate, owner of Basil’s friend Scarlet and one of the smartest women I know. I love her dearly, and miss her terribly.

Mom: My heroine, my nemesis. Much of who I am I owe to her, for better or worse. Thankfully, we are able to be friends, and I am learning to deal with the newly discovered issues with her (I thought I had none. Ha!).

Violet: My NY best friend. In many ways my twin and in many others my negative (we look completely opposite), she helped me more than she will ever know.
